Hey Mark. Go ahead. Take off the corner at #4. It will only take a second…

Nigel MottParticipantWoo Hoo! First course of the new season. That makes it official! Looking forward to seeing everyone again.
Nigel MottParticipantI have an idea, John. Commit to the ‘higher authority’ that if you are allowed to come to the Autocross, you will sell a minimum of $100? $200? of cookies to the attendees. I’m in for $20 to get you started. I didn’t get this figure by avoiding girl scout cookies… (Tagalongs and Samoas work nicely, thank you) Also, have you seen what happens to the cookies at the club? It’s gruesome and savage, but mercifully quick. I suspect we may have a few ‘cookie monsters’ lurking in among the cones. Joking apart, I really think you’d do OK. Just sell them for 30-40 minutes during lunch, assuming this is not against any CCA rules. If it is, I unreservedly apologize, and respectfully request that the Autocross Committee pelt me with Thin Mints as punishment. (It may be a little while before I cry uncle.)
Nigel MottParticipantThanks for posting Jeff. I’m sure the lack of clarity must get pretty wearing for you, but I’m certain that we all appreciate your efforts on behalf of the club.
Nigel MottParticipantAnother great design from Dave! Looks like a really fast course, but I’m pretty confident I can avoid the cones on this one. I’m guessing the fast guys will break 6 seconds….
Nigel MottParticipantHi Brad. I ran PSS on my Z3 Coupe all season. I’m a Michelin fan and they are not too bad. I found them linear and predictable, with no evil attributes. If you were running Autocross, HPDE and Daily Driver in the wet, I think they would offer a good compromise. I see many of the fast folks are running Z11’s, but Grassroot Motorsports also had good things to say about the G-force Rivals and so I fitted a set to my spare wheels for the last event. Rivals have a 200 tread wear rating vs the 300 of the PSS. I felt the Rivals offered a bit more grip and carving ability and so I’ll run them from this point forward.
I think you’d enjoy AA. It’s full of really slow folks who are very easy to beat: Ratko, Jeff, Tim, The K brothers…… not.
Nigel MottParticipantIt’s nearly more points than my (ahem) ‘driving skills’ have produced…
Nigel MottParticipantTop speed on the Freeways is 3 MPH. So track time time is necessary to get into second gear…
Nigel MottParticipantA few months ago I received an e:mail from the Los Angeles CCA. They were about to shut down their autocross program due to lack of interest from members. Doesn’t seem like a problem we have in the GGC!
Nigel MottParticipantI’d like to express my thanks to the organizers. For me personally, I think this was the most fun event I’ve attended in 8 months with the group. It was a great course and the weather was awesome. It was also entertaining. I think the folks on Cone stations 2 and 6 with RG2 should receive battle pay! Also, my appreciation to Dave for a 48.0 second passenger trip around the cones. Wow…! So THAT’S how it’s done…!
Nigel MottParticipantLooks like another great course based on the videos posted. (‘Well held, Sir,’ on Brads video at ~35 seconds..!)
Nigel MottParticipantHi Henry
The Z3 uses the same rear suspension as the 318 I believe. There is a lot of information on the E36/7/8 Bimmerforum that I read before replacing all the rear bushings in December. The consensus on that forum was Powerflex purple (street) rear sub-frame bushings and OEM RTABs and Differential mount bushings. The rational is that you want more stiffness (less movement) in the sub-frame, but more compliance in the RTABs and Differential mount, for the reason Jeff states. I’ve been happy with the results of this combination on my car. If you need the DIY sub-frame bushing removal tool, let me know. I found the trick to removing the sub-frame bushings was to apply plenty of heat from a hot air gun. This made the rubber ‘slippery.’ Coupe owners who have fitted PU all around tell me they got more NVH in the cabin and this was not my personal preference.Nigel MottParticipantI’ve heard good things about the school and am signed up for the July class. It’s clear that the car is not the weak link in the car/driver relationship! The sting of having Ricardo beat me in the opener was the call to action…
Nigel MottParticipantHi Tim (and Brian)
I just noticed your post on car #100 in AA. Driver is Jeremy and I worked station 4 with him during the group 3 runs. We met at an autocross event a few months ago. He definitely told me his best time was 53.xx. I saw Jeremy post on a different section of the forum and so if he sees this he may be able to confirm (or I owe him an apology and a beer…)Nigel MottParticipantHi Brian
Thanks for tabulating the results. I have to believe it is quite the task. My results are correct (#462 AA) – including the 5 cones that failed to get out of the way on my last run. I can only hope that they have learned their lesson! -
