James KeaneParticipant
Jeff,
I did some poking around about an FM Transmitter some time back, and here are a few things I found out
1. This is what the local SCCA SFR folks use http://www.decade.ca/en/products.php?prd=777560932 This has been around a while, so there might be newer or better technology around. There are much cheaper models with similar power out there, but I don’t know enough about transmitters to know whether spending the extra $$ is necessary
2. Interfering with an airports signal is a No-No. There are range limits on the broadcast strength and proximity to airports. Would this be a problem for Marina ariport events? It’s related to the Part 15 of a FCC regulation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Title_47_CFR_Part_15.
Any more technical folks have though on this?
Thanks
JamesJames KeaneParticipantAw, gonna miss this one and it looks like a fun, fast course. Wife is traveling and I’m home alone with the two kids. Surely, Recaro child-seats must be auto-x certified? 👿
James KeaneParticipantHave to say it was a very enjoyable course. It definitely was not a straightforward point and shoot course, and it was tough to get the best out of it. I know I failed, but I had fun trying. The first lefthand long sweeper was a challenge to take fast with the tail trying to escape from you, which would then set you up for a nice drift into the righthand kink. I rode with Karlton in his porsche and it was joy to watch him lightly drift the car with precision through that whole section. There were also several more nuanced turns in the back section constantly made you give up speed to set up for the next turn. Overall it was a sneaky course 🙂 It tempted you to go flat out, but doing do would only make you go slow or spin.
Nice work Dave!
James
James KeaneParticipantAw man, not another tight n’ twisty one. 😛
Don’t get me wrong. I like a good technical challenge, but what I really love is the sensation of speed and the challenge of fast sweepers. In retrospect, some of my favorite courses have been a good mix of both tight and fast – often requiring crossovers to make use of the limited space we have. We just had a very tight one last round, so I was hoping for something more open this time.
It should be a good course – I am just putting in my vote for a Need for Speed on the next one
Cheers,
JamesJames KeaneParticipantSame thing in A class with 0.4 seconds covering the top 4 places. It’s gonna be a fun season!
James KeaneParticipantI have a service appointment at the house in the morning, but if it finishes up quickly then I will be there. Count me in for coaching again this season.
James KeaneParticipantHi Mark,
It was a real blast taking a few runs in your FF today. Many, many thanks for the opportunity and experience! The only unfortunate side-effects have been that a) my M3 feels abysmally slow and b) I’ve spent the rest of the weekend measuring up my garage and trawling the ApexSpeed classifieds…..
Cheers,
JamesJames KeaneParticipantHi Mark,
Count me in for a couple runs (at least) as well.
Thanks.
JamesJames KeaneParticipantWanted to thank everyone for a great event! I had an absolute blast. This event was a solid way to shake off the winter rust and catch up with everyone. In fact, I had so much winter rust built up my car swallowed cones on my first two runs.
Again, great idea Jeff and team, and a wonderful addition to the calendar.
Cheers,
JamesJames KeaneParticipantHere is the track map

James KeaneParticipantNow that is a pretty fantastic race report! Nice one Rob. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to an F1 race, but your description brings a lot of the cool race memories back.
A few questions about how to get tickets, lodging and travel early and try to avoid getting fleeced.
It sounds like turn 12 is the best place to sit for passing – like Turn 1 at the Indy F1 track. I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be massive demand for these tickets when they come out, so any suggestions on getting onto these tickets early? I just subscribed to the COTA mailing list.
What about lodging & flights. Did you book this WAY early? Would you suggest booking now for next years race, and what site was useful for B&Bs, etc?
If there is interest, we might even be able to co-ordinate with a few of the club members and do a group thing.
Cheers,
JamesJames KeaneParticipantNot official, but here is a cellphone photo I took of the results on the day.

James
James KeaneParticipantNo worries. It’s a pretty common gauge. I just PM’d you.
Cheers!
James
James KeaneParticipantHere are a couple elements I like discovering.
1. “Easter Egg” straights. Where you can make a short sequence of corners into a mini-straight if you get the line just right. See Station #5 at candlestick http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/media/kunena/attachments/47/20120729-candlestickSiteMap-FINAL.pdf
2. “Dummy” corner cones. Where the cones marking a corner have nothing to do with the line you take to set up for the following corner. e.g. if you hug the inside line of the corner then you are going to exit at the wrong speed or angle.
3. Like Hal, I like the challenge of high speed straights followed by heavy, tight braking which then leads to a medium speed something or the other. This punishes you if you overbrake or underbrake.
James
James KeaneParticipantLooks like a tricky little doozie. Can’t wait to try it out!
