I did a 51.762 last October… probably would have done better this time with more runs as others have reported. I think it was warmer on Saturday than it was last fall too, that helped with grip. I have a 3.46 open diff in mine – that was the best $200 I’ve spent on the car.

The Star Specs are pretty ideal for Marina because they don’t require a lot of heat to get going like the RS-3’s do. We have lengthy waits between runs and the weather is usually overcast and on the cooler side with a brief appearance of the sun during lunch.

LSD makes a huge difference… that’s why we charge a lot of points for that mod. I have one in my Jeep and its value is so obvious when compared to my car on my main drive home. Adding one to my car would drain my wallet, but also push me up into AAA with the big HP boys.

Try to get some seat time in a mostly stock E36 M3 at the TnT. You’ll immediately see the difference an LSD makes, and also get real angry at the DBW throttle in your E46. I loath it and wish I could rip it out.

Oh, one thing that may have contributed to slightly quicker times is the position of the finish timer. We moved it a bit closer to the last corner this time around. Certainly not .7s closer though.
My best run of the day @ 50.1 — Thanks Jeff for letting me borrow your wheels & tires, they’re worth 3 seconds!
You’re very welcome. I’m sure the lighter wheels and stickier tires contributed some, but I also see a difference in your driving. You learned a few things at the Evo School about looking ahead which allowed you to charge the course harder this time. Less coasting and earlier on the gas in a few spots. A few tenths gained here and there really adds up!

    Best… “job”… ever!

That’s fine John… just make sure your bud signs in when he arrives and we’ll sort it out at the event.

We have lots of trained coaches available for novice and first timers. They decide when someone can go solo or take a passenger. Those required to have a coach will have “COACH REQUESTED” on their run sticker so they can be found.

We’re good on buddies, but I’ll add you to my list of volunteers for next time.

    See you tomorrow!

Probably not a fit issue, but your speedometer will read slower than actual speed by a small percentage. Use this tool to do a comparison of different sizes to see how much:

FWIW, BMW speedos read higher than actual and can be 5%-7% off and still remain “within spec.” So, running a slightly taller tire would reduce that error, if yours is the same – which I’m sure it is.

Nope, only folks who don’t have stickers yet. We’ll do new ones again when the 2005’s expire.

The winner by a landslide is October 2012. For those of you attending, here is the full resolution course map.
77 people are signed up. Looks like we’re back to 3 run groups and 7-8 runs each.
Since I sold it on MSR as a 12 run event, it would not be fair to those who signed up early to increase the count by so many and reduce their driving time. Dave and I did the math and we feel we can handle 60 folks and still get 12 runs each. We will do three groups of 20.

I’m pleasantly surprised at the interest in a January event. I guess it’s true… if you build it, they will come! For the next one, I won’t limit registration to 60 and just run it like a regular event sans competition.

Simon, that is the only Saturday open that I can commit to an event. I do not have confirmation from Marina yet, but that is what I’m shooting for. Seems there is more than enough interest in these types of events.

Thanks for volunteering guys, and to those who wrote me directly. We can use many more, so if you’re interested too, please let me know.

Dudey… shall I add another registration question? 🙂

I visited an old friend today… the truck and trailer… so I could take an inventory and collect the timing equipment and radios for charging. I have to say… I’m really psyched for next week!

We may have to do it again in February! Pre-Season Test & Tune on 2/23 maybe? 👿
Looks like I’m too late. What’s the cap on the event entries?
You’re in. After talking with the team, we decided we can safely handle 60 and still have a good chance at 12 runs each for this event, so I moved 10 folks from the waitlist this morning. If others are interested you should still sign up in case we get cancellations next Wednesday.

For our regular season competition events that start on April 20th, we cap at 100.

We’ll be driving the October course. We’ll have three run groups of 20 cars each. Since this is not a competition, we won’t need as many workers and won’t have to worry about the timing system accuracy and all that – so I expect we will get thru the rotations quickly. And, if everyone is there early and we get the course setup fast, perhaps we can even start driving before 10am too!

And yes, the weather outlook is pretty darn awesome for January!
Interesting.. the 235/40-17 are pricey compared to the Z1s (like >$20 more per tire). I wonder if it’s a volume thing since that size is also $10 more per tire than 255/40-17 ZIIs.

Might be time to finally pull the trigger on those 17×9″ wheels when I get my next set of tires…
I run 245/40/17 on 8.5″ wheels… perfect match on the Z1’s and should be on the Z2’s.

More popular sizes are cheaper even if they are larger.

October has a very strong lead and there are only a handful of spots left at this point. I’m really psyched at the response to this event!

Tim… looks like we have another IS-F registered. Someone you referred maybe?
