Jeff RobertsParticipant
No worries 181. The question comes up now and then so I wanted to give a little background.
Michael, this season has been amazingly successful so far. When I started attending back in 2009, you had to be registered within the first couple of days or you weren’t getting in.
I talk to lots of people as I’m involved in all of our programs and learned that folks were apprehensive to try autocross for a couple of reasons. So, we eliminated those reasons by focusing on coaching and putting on fun-run events and advanced CCC so members can get their feet wet without the stress of competition. It seems to have worked. Plus, many folks are getting their friends involved, which is great. That’s how many of us got started, me included.
The Chapter is doing a full court press on our membership to get more people involved. Cars & Coffee meetups are happening in all regions, tech sessions, and social gatherings. Our calendar is chock full of fun stuff to do.

The only suggestion I would make is to perhaps adjacently cluster run/work groups (make 4 of them) so that one doesn’t have to spend an entire day at the event. My 2c..
Thank you! The people are the reason I got involved in the first place and I truly look forward to seeing everyone each month. Event after event new people make a point of telling me how welcoming we are and that credit goes to our awesome members.
We used to have 4 run groups, and we tried it at 4/20’s event with limited success. We were short on workers and didn’t have enough coaches. Some people selflessly volunteered to work 3 sessions on course, while others did the same to coach. In true GGC style, people stepped up to make the event run smoothly.
After the event the team discussed it and decided we would stick with 3 groups so we have enough workers. Over 40% of our attendees are first-timers or novice drivers. I try my best to have one coach for every 2 coachees, and we need at least 17-19 workers to fill the rest of the positions in each group. Plus we have tech inspectors, staff, and gate workers. With 3 groups we have a few extras to fill in as needed or to cover no shows. We don’t get many, but sometimes people don’t show up and leave us short-handed.
There are many logistics to putting one of these together and 100/3 is not the only consideration. I wish it were that simple.
To be fair to all, we do rotate the run group order with each event. If your class ran last in May, you’ll run first this weekend, second next month, and so on.
Jeff RobertsParticipantAs I get them, I move people in. You’ll get notified if/when I can move you. After reg closes tomorrow I’ll let those who didn’t make it in know for sure. There have only been 3 since we sold out a week ago.
Interesting statistic: we had 90 people registered within the first week, 60 of which came within the first few days after reg opened.
We must be doing something right.
Jeff RobertsParticipantHere it is, just for you Mark. 🙂 If you right-click on the image and select “copy image url” and load that in another browser window, you can get the full resolution version for best printing.

Jeff RobertsParticipantWe’ve always limited regular season events to 100 drivers. Unfortunately, that means 13 are on the wait list at this point and will not get in unless we have cancellations. Folks are moved from the wait list first in, first out, as spots open up.
I wish I could let everyone in, but we are at max capacity with 100 drivers.
Jeff RobertsParticipant
Roger, do you know when you’ll post the Gonzo corrected times? If the calculation is posted somewhere, please include the link. Thanks!
((60/59.901) ^ points) * time * 0.85
Jeff RobertsParticipant
Still not sure how anyone gets down to 47 and change like DD.
Dave is a great driver, no doubt. Other than having super tight lines and being smooth, I truly believe the LSD, and cable throttle, really plays a big part in why the E36 M3s are faster. We open diff folks are SOL on gription with one side of the car all loaded up and our crappy eThrottle just doesn’t respond like the cable throttles do.
I’ve been struggling with getting power down forever. There has to be a suspension or tire pressure tweak to improve that. The right-hand hairpin after the 2nd slalom was really frustrating with all the wheel spin coming out of it.
I’m thinking about a box of Dry Erase markers so we can all write our excuses on the trailer wall. 🙂
Jeff RobertsParticipantOverlap is just a suggestion based on speed/time calculations from the paper design. We will determine the actual overlap once we run some cars thru on Saturday.
Jeff RobertsParticipantDave… find the 2013 policies and procedures thread. There is some explanation of points and scoring in that content.
Jeff RobertsParticipant
Jeff/Brian,
I’m new to this. What is the small time that is below each persons lowest run time mean and used for? Some have it some don’t?
Chris
That is the difference between that person’s time and the next fastest person’s time.
Jeff RobertsParticipant
Hi … I’m new to all this so bear with me … I see the heading says the results are here … I don’t see them or anything to click on to find them … is this where I would find the results from 4/20.
Thanks for your help … Dave Devlin
Hi Dave –
After an event we verify the computer data against the hand-written log and make any adjustments needed. Then we post the results here for a week or two to give people a chance to review and let us know if anything needs to be looked at further. When things look to be final, Brian will calculate the final results with points accumulated and update the season standings. This will be where final results get posted as well as the season standings.
Jeff RobertsParticipantBest… one… yet!
1 XL please.
Jeff RobertsParticipantThe yellow-sticky-hander-outer doesn’t always get the cone counts… in fact, it’s pretty uncommon for that to be included on the slip. Reason is, they usually cannot hear the radio chatter and the timing display does not include that information.
Brian can double check, but if the paper tracking sheet and computer agree, it happened. If there is a discrepancy, the paper tracking sheet wins. There are three workers who verify the cone counts at the event: comms, hand scoring, and computer operator, with extra help from the announcer.
Jeff RobertsParticipantSomeone asked about break-in period with the ZII’s… anyone have any guidance on that from those of you who have been running them a while?
Jeff RobertsParticipantI like to think we are Mark. 🙂 Many new folks have found our program through the off season events and CCC, which was our goal. Thanks to you and the other volunteer coaches, they keep coming back for more.
We’re all very excited for 2013!
