That was crazy fast. The guy with the V8 mid-engine Fiesta (Wayne) posted a video showing him hitting 105 on the first section.

The concern with the 245/40R18 is the added diameter – they’re about 0.7 larger in diameter than the 255/35R18. If you’re worried about the added width from a 255 tire, a 245/35R18 tire would probably be a better size to choose.

I am running 255/40R17 and 255/35R18 tires on 8.5″ wheels, each with a 40 offset. My car is lowered 0.25″ in front and 0.5″ in the rear compared to stock. My coupe could take a smaller offset (32-35) or wider wheel in the rear without rubbing, but I don’t think sedans are quite as roomy.

FWIW Kris Linquist (krisl) had a post stickied on bimmerfest for a while which had a link to a much larger database than what is preserved in the bfest wiki. If you search for it you could probably turn it up. I don’t know if the database is still around.

It should move pretty freely. You might want to spray some penetrating oil on the plate to help things slide around. I usually have to do that for the first event of each season. FWIW I normally use some spray teflon-based dry lube from Finish Line that I use on my bicycles to lube brake and derailleur cables.

Thanks for the great photos, Mark. Yeah, tons of rejects. The camera had a hard time acquiring focus quickly enough. Once I did get focus, then it was pretty much spray and pray.

I have around 1400 photos to go through from yesterday. I will add gallery links to this post once I am done. These are my picks from the Top Driver Shootout:
Anyone take any photos this time? where are our photographers?
The current restrictions on photography have caused me to lose interest (and Jeff, no worries, I do understand why they are in place). Mark Mervich still takes a few from the pre-grid when he attends. Mark has been about the only regular photographer this season.
II do notice BMW tech spec said M coupé is lighter than the roaster by 27 lb.
The coupe is actually 33 pounds heavier according to my M Roadster/Coupe sales brochure (3230 vs 3197). BMW started with the roadster and added a roof, and not the other way around. I think the coupe has the advantage when it comes to torsional rigidity.

I am curious about the 4 point difference too – the cars are nearly identical.

I think Jeff processes our account charges tomorrow, so my guess would be any cancellations received prior to that.
Can you manually focus, or prefocus? The autofocus on my camera’s a little iffy, so I’ll usually pre-focus on somewhere I’m expecting the car to be and keep the focus locked in (half press of the shutter button) until the car arrives in the frame. Cones make a reasonable thing to focus on. If the camera’s having a really bad day or I’ll be taking lots of the same shot I’ll switch it to manual focus and lock it in for good. (And try to remember to turn the AF back on when I’ve finished.)
The EM-5 in continuous high only focuses for the first shot in a sequence, so providing the car doesn’t move away or towards the camera much after focus was acquired it was ok. So I would acquire, then spray and pray. That is essentially a form of prefocusing. I am used to shooting motorsports with a D700 and it tracks moving objects quite well. This Olympus is a very different camera.
