ricardo jaminParticipant
I got pulled over earlier today because they spotted no front license plate.
So DMV would not sign off on this?ricardo jaminParticipantLooks like a fun course. I wish it on Saturday instead of Sunday.
ricardo jaminParticipantall my time are correct including the back to back 52.379
ricardo jaminParticipantOK finally got it to slide.
I took off the wheel on the driver side and jack up both left and right of the car at the same time. the mechanic who installed the plate for me said it might be the sway bar exerting some pressure if I only jack it up one side.
for the passenger side I tried with the wheel still on and was able to slide it rather easily.–ricardo
ricardo jaminParticipant@Cliff. Thanks for the tips. I suppose some lube should help. although it was only installed 2 weeks ago, so I don’t think it would seize yet.
@Jeff. Thanks for the tips. I hear ya about not overtighten the nuts. It was written all over the plate and packaging to tighten to 18 ft/lb. I have medium size torque wrench to tighten it.
Jeff so you’re saying to jack it up, loosen the plate nut, drop the car back to the ground, bounce it, jack it up again, then slide the plate?

ricardo jaminParticipantThanks for the tips Jeff.
I actually have been buying parts online. But Tischer once sent me a wrong part. It was a muffler gasket. I checked the packing slip and it has the right part number. The gasket it self has no label or stamp so I can’t verify right away. I found out when I got the old muffler out and compared the old gasket with the new one. Tischer refund my money but its a pain to redo the work.
I’m hoping there is a good local place. so if its a wrong part I can just drive down to get a replacement.ricardo jaminParticipanthere are some shot from RG1 and RG3.

ricardo jaminParticipantone M for me
ricardo jaminParticipantcool, I didn’t know about bmwfans before. I think I like the layout of it better than realoem, at least from the 5 minutes of using it.
BTW its bmwfans.info. weirdly for me bmwfans.com takes me to a mazdausa site.
ricardo jaminParticipantThanks for reply Rob.
Good point about we’re sharing the same oil filter housing as non m car.
Weird thing is all the result that i found were taking about non m. So I was hoping it doesn’t affect the m car.
I finally had the time to check under the hood under day lights today. The casting plug seems to be OK. Looks dry and didn’t see any leak when the engine run and revved. So I think I’m going to leave it alone.
My mechanic actually sent me that same link to me too. However he doesn’t recommend doing that. I trust him because I usually bring my own parts so it’s not that he’s trying to sell me a part I don’t need.ricardo jaminParticipantJeff,
you can sign me up as tech again this year.
ricardo jaminParticipantI was referring to the 06-08 model, e85/6

ricardo jaminParticipantthanks for the suggestions Jeff.
I took the car for inspection on sunday. I figured best to just see how its doing and attack the problem from there.
It passed. but HC and NO at 15 mph still at borderline and NO at 25mph doubled from last time.I learned that Santa Clara Valley(and LA basin and San Diego) are the county that requires enhanced smog check. and some county like Lake County doesn’t even do bi-annual smog check. Like you said the car must follow the type of test it registered at.
Yes e36 has cyclone separator too. it seems that also maintenance item on 100k+ miles car.
ricardo jaminParticipantI didn’t know that each county do it differently. Does that mean I can just go to Santa Cruz to do a smog test, and they won’t do a dyno?
Good point on O2 sensor even if it doesn’t throw code. I’ll check how old they are.
Oh and I forgot to ask if there is any side effect from the habit of overfilling by half quarts (to avoid oil starvation on s52 engine). I’m wondering if this might have any impact on HC?
ricardo jaminParticipant[quote=”m_dudey” post=1560]sorry, I’m slow to update the points standing. It’s a manual process. I’ll work on it.

It shouldn’t be hard to automate this with a script. I can try write a quick and dirty python script. Let me know if that would be helpful.
