Correction to the classification link: https://www.bmwautocross.com/autocross/
Bill RichterParticipantBill RichterParticipantKind of a challenging day for me, mid 49 was my best time for the event. I was able to find another .7 in the fun runs (thanks in part to my outside observer, Grant!) to get into the 48s.
I need to find my camera mount and data logger, I haven’t seen them since the move!
Bill RichterParticipantThanks, Jeff!
Bill RichterParticipantWas anybody out in RG3 taking pictures?
Bill RichterParticipantNot that it makes a difference (with a time of 59 seconds +1 ?), but my run #6 wasn’t a DNF. I took out one cone when I spun and came back on the track before the point where I left it.
Bill RichterParticipantNot that it makes much difference, but my #2 run was a DNF also. I drove on the wrong side of the apex cone at the kink entering onto the hangar straight. Still don’t know how I managed to thread the needle and not pick up 3 cones doing it… 🙂
Bill RichterParticipantROFL
Bill RichterParticipantLooks like a standard 1/4 NP thread to me…
Bill RichterParticipantThe only real problem area to watch out for is the rear subframe mounts/rear axle carrier panel. Definitely something to have TC Design look at before purchase. There is also a part on the valve train that can break (the exhaust cam hub has a couple of tabs on it to drive the VANOS oil pump and the tabs have been known to break), A competent E46 mechanic always takes a look at them when he’s adjusting the valves.
If you drive them hard, it’s a good idea to run an oil sample every now and then, because if you’re constantly running them close to redline, rod bearings become a maintenance item. It’s kind of pricey, about $2000 at your friendly neighborhood shop. As a data point, I bought my car with 75k on it and had the rod bearings done at 147k. Tin had been high for several owil changes, but there were still no signs of copper in the oil. The bearings were not too badly worn when they came out, but it was definitely getting to be time to have them done. We can talk more at autocross if you want.

Bill RichterParticipantYou’re not the only one who feels that about Facebook!
Glad you got it sorted out.
Bill RichterParticipantHi, Nick.
Did you change the privacy setting on the FB pictures to “public”? I’ve been bitten by that before…
Bill RichterParticipantAre we going to run it both ways?
Bill RichterParticipantAny pictures of #391?
Bill RichterParticipantThat was quick! 🙂
