Brian StanawayParticipant
Rumor is that a drone startup (Joby?) has monopolized the available area at Marina, no more autocrossing or karting.
Brian StanawayParticipantHey Chris, I sympathize, I’ve missed a few events by forgetting to register on time, if you’re not registered by 1PM the day registration opens odds are slim to get in, they make a good atmosphere that keeps people coming back.
Luckily there’s lots of opportunities to autocross, I’ve enjoyed events by the Golden Gate Lotus Club, Loma Prieta Porsche Club, and SCCA San Francisco Region at Marina. Looks like the Porsche club event at Marina on Sunday isn’t totally filled up, maybe they can fulfill your need for speed?
If it’s not too far there’s also American Auto-X Series at Crows Landing this weekend, no pre-registering, show up hand them the cash and take your runs, SCCA also puts on events out there and it’s a great site. Hopefully one popular sell out club hasn’t scared you off the hobby.
Brian StanawayParticipantJeremy, I think your intuition is totally correct, we both manage to overdrive a sweeper or two with the Mini (and I totally under drove the slalom, I got scared after spinning on run 2) we’re hoping that some consistency comes to us with some more seat time 🙂
Edit: Dave’s run is practically textbook!

Brian StanawayParticipantGreat event, the team does not get enough credit, from hauling the trailer in to publishing the results, job well done, looking forward to the next one!

Brian StanawayParticipantI can’t find the edit button but pasted Bill’s run in twice instead of mine, whoops.
Brian StanawayParticipantI think Andy just needs a bigger canvas.
Brian StanawayParticipantThanks Jack! I was pretty sure there was more time to be had, then I saw Dave hustle his Miata, that thing will be wicked fast when it gets good tires and I need to tighten up my lines in the mean time! The course really rewarded precision now that I think about it, lots of places to give up time. Solid runs from Stephen and Andy above show the same, tight and tidy as best you can ?

Brian StanawayParticipantHal: it won’t go any stiffer!
Eric suggested more front camber, I think he might be right on that, we trust the pyrometer too much. Experimentation is king.
Brian StanawayParticipantWon’t change any results but for posterity Eric drove my 3rd run which was slow due to a mis-shift and I think I’m missing a participation point for event #5 (I did complete my first run in the Mini but I got moved to Noncompete when Dennis so kindly offered his car when the Mini broke an axle)
Brian StanawayParticipantFastest 42.2 in AA
Hal, I’ve apparently mimicked your problems yet again! The FR-S wouldn’t stop rotating in 2016 and now the Mini can’t rotate in 2017 (coincidentally with a new diff as well)!See y’all next month

Brian StanawayParticipantNifty, glad to see you got the data working! Shame I wasn’t turning the camera on for the fast run but the thing looks like a handful even on video, makes me feel a bit better about my performance. 😉
Brian StanawayParticipantHuge thanks to Dennis for letting me drive his badass car!
And my compliments to Brian as well, fast with the results, even faster on course! See y’all next month.
Brian StanawayParticipantFYI to Brian, car 999 is supposed to be Amy Radu iirc, for some reason her number didn’t show up in the system. In case that didn’t get passed along or you didn’t get an email about it from someone else 😉
Brian StanawayParticipantI motion to adopt lotus club’s banana cones.
Brian StanawayParticipantHey Bill, PAX stands for adjusted time, not sure what the acronym actually means but there it is.
I believe the system we use has the capability to automatically adjust times as they get read in, makes perfect sense for SCCA where they only run about ~30 classes with distinct adjustments (all DS cars have an adjustment of 0.801 for instance whether it’s a Camaro or WRX or E36) but the way GGC does adjustments would probably not play well with the system. (I.e. a B class car with 41 points has a different adjusted time to a B class car with 49 points, so really GGC would have 50+ different adjustments to account for)
I think you could create separate classes for each point classification so we could see TDS times at the event, but I have a hunch that would ruin the nifty thing it does now when you pull up AAA to see how everyone is doing in class. So as it stands the PAX is identical to the raw/overall times.
Maybe it’s a possibility that could be used at the TDS, but the staff have enough on their hands as it is, no need to make more work for them by manually creating 50 some odd classes and assigning 60 drivers to their points class. 🙂
