Seconded. The big question of which way to go through the turnaround was almost a distraction as there turned out to be many other more subtle ways to go wrong and give up time.

Which way through the U-turn between slaloms? Driver’s choice?

    Sure looks that way.

By “bump up the rev,” do you mean that they adjusted engine idle speed upward?

Here’s my fastest official run at 45.033: https://www.dropbox.com/s/waumq84caf5gkcv/GGC%202015-02-28%20best%20official%20%28small%29.mov?dl=0

All of my fun runs were at least a quarter second faster than that. I eventually whittled the time down to a hair under 44 secs:https://www.dropbox.com/s/waumq84caf5gkcv/GGC%202015-02-28%20best%20official%20%28small%29.mov?dl=0

I drove the ess much better in the slower of these two runs, but obviously more than made up for that everywhere else.

Dana’s numbers look right. As for mine (#793A), as much as I would’ve liked to have gotten those 44s during regulation time, I didn’t get anything below 45 sec. until my fun runs. Scratch times for my first two runs should be 46.686 and 45.657; my fastest run should be the 5th, at 45.033. Drops me a place in the standings. Darn.

Official cone counts often don’t match the time slips, even without the current chaos. Sometimes a late count comes in, sometimes the person handing out the slips doesn’t hear the count, &c.

Wow! Have the data ever been this badly mangled? Per our time slips:

    Andy Daniels, RG 3, A, #793:
    1: 46.686
    2: 45.657+1
    3: 45.650
    4: 45.758
    5: 45.033
    6: 45.594+1

    Dana Gleason, RG 3, A, #379:
    1: 47.359
    2: 45.571
    3: 50.157+1
    4: 46.136+1
    5: 46.077+1
    6: 44.681+DNF
(you can get much better times if you take short cuts ;))

The cone counts don’t quite match her time slips, but it looks like Dana’s times all got assigned to #914, who gridded right after her. #614’s times, other than for run 2, look like mine. (Wish I’d managed to break 45 during regulation runs instead of later during fun runs.) Makes sense, since he was sharing the Miata with #914 and drove right after me. Again, the cone counts don’t quite match, but my fastest scratch time was also clean in the results, ditto Dana’s, so I’m not going to worry about the others. My second run’s time appears to have been assigned to Dennis, #637. Could be that the ‘9’ on my car got put on upside-down during a hurried changeover.

Katie Geiger’s times should all be at least 51.xxx secs, possibly with a recorded 7th run of 45.xxx that Ryan took in her car. The latter would’ve been one of the last two or three runs for her run group. Dave Sparks took two runs in close succession at the end of his session to make up for missing his turns earlier.

That’s the way I read the map.

Doing a pressure test is a good start. That’ll quickly eliminate the sender as a possible culprit. I’m surprised Edge didn’t do that while they had the old sensor out, since that’s where you’d stick the pressure gauge, anyway. While you’re in there, clean the contacts on the connector and put some dielectric goo on it if Edge didn’t do that themselves.

A search of various BMW forums unfortunately reveals that a fairly wide range of things could be causing this, so you’ll have to do some investigating to narrow down the cause. One simple possibility is the oil filler cap, though I’d expect to see the pressure warning at other than idle in that case. Going to a heavier oil might do the trick, too.

More specifically identifying the circumstances under which you see the flicker will help definitely narrow down the possibilities. I.e., only when engine is hot, only at idle, when weather is warm, &c.

    Good luck!

This could be a fun course in the rain—60% chance last I checked.

Oh, and Jack had better get to work on this year’s t-shirts with this accelerated schedule. 😉

Hehe. I guess the PCA might’ve jumped the gun a bit, then. They’ve had their entire season up on MSR for a week or two now.

Thanks for posting this, Jeff! Folks were asking me about the schedule at Cars & Coffee yesterday.

    My sentiments exactly!

A huge thanks to Jeff and the rest of the AX staff and volunteers for putting this together. It was a great way to end the year. There was even time for extra fun runs after the official fun runs!

Ah. That’s why it was working for Dana a few minutes ago.

I think I recognize this course. Turn 2 and the in-and-out spiral that follow it definitely ring a bell.
