Andy DanielsParticipant
Thanks for posting both of those videos, Eric. I found it very instructive to see where you made improvements in the second one.
Andy DanielsParticipantMust’ve been the same evil cone that took out our fog light and steering hose. At the end of the day, a tire pressure gauge, air pump and three jackets were left over, but I don’t remember seeing a fog light insert at the trailer.
Andy DanielsParticipantBTW, all that smoke you see in the distance is from a pretty serious wildfire, not a controlled burn as someone confidently told me at the time.
Andy DanielsParticipantHear, hear! Phillip and I were busy battling it out for second only to have Gurinder come out of nowhere to take it from the both of us.
Andy DanielsParticipantHave you tried e-mailing the AX coordinators directly?
Andy DanielsParticipantThanks, Chris! There’s some interesting stuff buried in there. Looks like the Redline we’ve been using rates fairly highly in his tests. Phew! Something I found interesting and a bit surprising is how much variation there can be within a brand.
Too bad the blog reads like a stereotypical crank’s manifesto, complete with repetition and idiosyncratic capitalization. He also uses way too much space defending (rather weakly, I might say) his methods and results with anecdotes, testimonials and appeals to authority.
Andy DanielsParticipantWasn’t Gary Gehiere driving Snoopy last week? I’m pretty sure that’s not an A-class car.
Andy DanielsParticipantIf you’re looking for guinea pigs, Dana and I will be there.
Andy DanielsParticipantNicely illustrating that “don’t be slow” is more important than “be fast.”
Andy DanielsParticipantThat’s good, ’cause there aren’t any.
I think Jack’s got the right idea: the name isn’t meant to imply a choice, but to evoke the image of weaving from lane to lane on the freeway. Call that initial “lane change” section a slalom and all will be well with the universe again.
It’s more like the CCC lane-change exercise than the usual slalom layout in that there’s a relatively narrow gap through which you have to cross over to the other “lane.” That shouldn’t really make much difference, though, since we’re all attacking the backs of the cones, right?
Andy DanielsParticipantI’m a bit surprised that more people didn’t take advantage of the skid pad, what with the 15-20 min and longer wait between AX runs. You don’t have to only run figure-eights on it, after all. I saw Jack practicing launches, Katie experiencing spins, while Dana and I did various things, such as running ovals for a while to experiment with how soon and how fast we could get to full throttle in a turn.
It was really nice to be able to work on one or two specific things over and over on the skid pad, then go take a couple of runs on the course to see what difference that made, then back to the skid pad to refine something else… Lather, rinse, repeat.
Andy DanielsParticipantCan we add a couple of cones at the “waist” of the figure-eight so that we can run a “dogbone” on it, too?
Andy DanielsParticipant@Jack: Have you had a chance to finish up this season’s shirt design yet? I know you’ve had a few higher-priority projects come up since you started this thread.
Andy DanielsParticipantHehe. Buggy to Bugatti.
Cool. Look forward to seeing it in action next weekend.
Andy DanielsParticipantCan it do live updates of standings on a local wi-fi net like the system you played with at one of the events a couple of years ago?
