Brian
I just now saw the results page. You are correct, the 43.xxx time is a DNF. I left the course and did not return to where I left it.
I would like to think I beat Dave Sparks by 6 seconds but it didn’t happen.

The timer display was not working for any of my runs so I have no way of verifying the accuracy of any of this. Should have known this was going to be a strange event. Jeff breaks his car, Jack is late it’s raining, oh well, we really just do this for the fun and socializing.Tim UptegroveParticipantJeff,
James is right about checking with the Marina airport operation folks. I don’t believe there are any official aviation frequencies in the fm band most operate in vhf 118-137MHz, uhf 243-380MHz and non satellite navigation aids at 75MHz and 190-530KHz. Probably the worst thing that could happen is some confused Bonanza pilot wondering why he is getting autocross times instead of Montovani.
TimTim UptegroveParticipantSheesh!
I go away for a couple of days and this forum erupts into a verbal firefight.
First of all let me second Jeff’s compliment to Mark. Well said and timely as well.
We all have opinions about various autocross layouts. I told Dave S. at the June event that I just knew he knew exactly what my biggest weakness was ( I have a lot, I know) and was deliberlly designing courses to embarass me;)Jack alluded to the fact that we don’t know what we don’t know regarding policies, legal and insurance opinions. After spending more than 30 years negotiating contracts with unions and dealing with insurance agents and lawyers
I do know that it is a convoluted and constantly counfounding experience. If there are two groups absolutely dedicated to making a hash out of things human do and attempting to suck all the joy out of various human activities
It is the legal and insurance industries.
At one of my first events with GGC, someone I was talking to (not one of the leadership people current or past) made what I thought was a very good summation of what these events truely mean. “If this was truely important and we were all professionals not just a bunch of guys out to have a good time we would be getting paid not paying for the priviledge”.
We have a uniquely open and friendly group led by people willing to sacrifice their own time so we can all have a bunch of fun with people with similar interests both in the activity and the particular marque.
We have a retired CHP officer up here who used to write a weekly column in which he ended each column with the phrase, “let’s all go out and enjoy the ride”.Tim UptegroveParticipantJack,
I”ll take 1 XL in Grey and 1 XL in White. When are you bringing the shirts? I’m going to miss the May event but plan on being at all the others.
Tim U.Tim UptegroveParticipantBrad,
I’ve seen one advertised in the Bavarian Autosport catalog. They want $50-$70 for one.
TimTim UptegroveParticipantOK Jeff,
What’s with classifying a 1998 Ferrari 308 GTS Magnum PI edition????
Being one of the old guys on this forum I saw Magnum PI when it ran the first time. The show ran from 1980-88.
The 308 was made from 1975-85 followed by the very similar looking 328 1986-89.
Either you were sold a bill of goods or this is an early April fools joke. Look forward to seeing everyone April 20.
TimTim UptegroveParticipantJeff,
Sounds ok to me. If no one else wants to do it I can volunteer to hand out time slips for the runs that I am not driving.Tim UptegroveParticipantHey Jeff,
I realize Jan.19 is a noncompete event but just a couple of questions.
1 Do we need to bring our numbers?
2 Are we going to have assigned run groups and therefore stickers?
If you already have planned your usual e-mail prior to the event (which I actually read by the way)
then don’t bother answering this post.
TimTim UptegroveParticipantTo Run Group 3
This is Tim the “Mad Spinner”.
First of all I want to thank Jeff and Jack for the kind words. I also heard the same thing from several of you at the event and I appreciate it. Jeff took some of the responsibilty and I ‘m not certain he should since I was the one driving and I knew from earlier events that my car this year has a very different reaction to throttle input than the naturally aspirated Z4 I had been driving. Matt and I had also talked a couple of time about the need for “throttle modulation” when driving a turbocharged car.
I realize that spins happen in this event but I can’t tell you how grateful I am that no one was hurt, just a piece of equipment and some cosmetic damage to my rim and tire.
My sincerest apologies to the rest of Run Group 3 for ruining the rest of the runs for you. I had made a suggestion to Jeff for a solution but the solution they came up with seems to be more than fair. If any of you are angry about the incident, I don’t blame you, and if any of you want to talk to me about it feel free. In case you do my car is #417
