255/35/18 on an 18×8.5″ (ET50) rim is the stock rear size on my E46, though probably not on any E46 xi models. The stock front is 18×8″ ET47.

I have run both 255/35/18 (17×8.5 ET50) and 245/40/17 (17×8.5″ ET40 rim) tires on the front and back of my E46. Sometimes in front it rubs the inner fender (towards engine bay) at full steering lock so I put in a 5mm spacer and have been waiting for some 12mm spacers. On the backs if you use ET40 that’s sitting 10mm farther outward than stock (ET50) so on a lowered car it can run the fender liner or fender lip. With a non-lowered xi, I doubt that would ever be an issue.

It’s not one of our members, but since we had a red Ford Fiesta and a few E46 M3 cars at the last AutoX, here’s a Smoking Tires video review of the two.

James has posted many great photos of the Feb 23rd event to Flikr, including some of you, Mark!

Here’s a pic of my car. If I can’t be fast, I can carry 3 passengers!

Hmmm I didn’t plan any of my turns that carefully. Maybe that’s why I’m 2 seconds behind the pace. I should take this AutoX business more seriously!

Ricardo posted some pictures from RG1. But I spoke with James (I think that’s his name) during RG3 and he said he took pictures of each run group but he didn’t know where they would be posted.

Here’s run 5 for Roman in a white E90 M3 (2nd run group). It’s his first day autocrossing, and he looks at least 5x better than my first day at AutoX! He also did the Car Control Clinic on Saturday. In this run he beats 50 seconds but hits one cone.

Thanks for a great day everyone. Here’s my 2nd fastest run (run 6 of 6) at 48.557. My fastest run was 48.265 but not caught on camera. I saw the faster drivers pulling 46’s so as usual, I’m a few seconds off the pace.

Having exhausted my list of excuses, here’s video of my 8th and 2nd-best run. This run was 42.261 and my best run was 42.154.

Barry, thanks for sharing the tips. Also heard the ExtremDW are some of the best rain tires but only drove them in rain once on track, never at AutoX.

Wait did I say my best time was same as Jeff Roberts? It turns out, much like telling fish tales of the one that got away, my AutoX story got better with every retelling. Having found my little yellow sticky notes, my best time was actually 0.9 seconds behind Jeff.

Since I had slicks and Jeff didn’t…. cue the handy excuse bag!

–My tires were cold at the beginning of the run and overheated at the end
–The slalom cones were moving themselves
–I had 8 passengers in the car for each run
–My tires were previously used in 6 professional endurance races
–My passengers weren’t offering me good coaching
–Driving with my eyes closed and there was a disturbance in The Force
–I did the slalom twice on every run
–Car had a full gas tank and two bottles of heavy water
–A thunderstorm microcell was raining right in front of my car
–Was driving slowly on purpose so Mervich will let me drive his car
    –Low on blinker fluid
–Low on torque and couldn’t put the power down anyway
–Forgot to put horseradish on my sandwich
    –Skydivers distracted me

Thanks, Andy. I have to get me some of those, or BFG Rivals or Bridgestone RE-11 tires.

Hey Dana congrats. May I ask what tires you were running? I used to run either Bridgestone RE-760 summer tires (not so good), then Continental ExtremDW summer tires (better). Just for this past event, I had some old racing slicks, supposed to be similar to Hoosier R6.

Been too lazy to copy the video to my computer and upload it. Yes, I realize that’s Lame!

It seems my best time was pretty close to Jeff’s, which makes me feel all warm and glowy inside, as long as I conveniently forget my “cheater” tires.

My best time was 42.150 Saturday; didn’t run in August. Being only 2 seconds behind Dunwoodie on a 40-second course makes me feel pretty good. Except I was on old Conti/Hoosiers.
