Enjoyed the event and my newphew had a blast at his first AutoX–he wants to know when the first AutoX of 2016 is. Plus I made it home early. Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers!

Course looks like fun rain or no rain. Though working the course might not be as fun with rain. Need a waterproof hoodie…

Thanks Jeff, I’m ready for some sliding action even with the good tires. Also I just watched Hal’s video.

How many people are we taking for the Crows Landing fun-run? I just registered as the 80th person. I know in the summer we typically take 100, but do we take fewer in the winter?

Innovative thinking! But probably easier to pay one the skydivers to record video of us on their descent. Just have to convince one to jump right before your fastest run starts. If you hit a cone, ask them to jump again.

Yippee! I may not be competitive in any class, but I look forward to April 18th and more autocross dates later in 2015. Need to finish wearing out those old all-season tires!

Wow, the results make me look at lot faster than in real life. Maybe I shouldn’t tell my real times… but here they are for John Kim car #511 running in RG3, A class.

    1) 52.660 (Paul as passenger)
    2) 51.608 (Sheda as passenger)
    3) 50.996 (Sheda as passenger)
    4) 49.849 (Eric Lam as passenger)
    5) 52.533 (no passenger)
    6) 57.972 DNF (Sean from AA as passenger)

In the provisional results, my first time is correct, my 2nd time was assigned to Hal Dorton’s 3rd run, then my 3rd/4th/5th times went to Andrew Hu Zheng in “A” class. My 6th time was given to Philip Blacklocks’ 6th run.

BTW I’m pretty sure my 6th run should be +1 or +2 and not DNF as I re-entered the course at the same place I left it after spinning, but no point in arguing about my slowest run out of a bunch of slow runs! 🙂

Ricardo, what weight oil are you running and how high are you running the oil level? For example the Mobil-1 5w-30 is supposed to be a little bit too thin when hot for our cars (I run Mobil-1 0w-40 or Total Energy 5w-40).

I’m new to my E36 M3 but based on Internet lore, two other possibilities are cracked oil pickup tube or tired oil pump seals. But I’m not sure how common those really are. As mentioned by others, doing a pressure test or installing an oil pressure gauge would help.

And the favorite E36 racing 3rd possibility: You’re driving really high-G left-hand sweepers and sloshing all the oil to the right side of the pan, leaving the oil pickup high and dry (all while re idling at a stoplight).

This is my best official run of 49.849 tires, with Eric Lam riding coach. I know that’s not very fast for the chassis. Ryan was able to do about 46.8 in my car during fun runs, and if I had a balanced tire setup I think he could have gotten down to at least a 44, maybe 43. I thought I saw the really good E36 drivers getting down to 42 seconds and Pranil in his S2000 down to 41?

For classification, With 4 all-season tires I’d be in A. With 4 summer tires I’m in AA. Given my mix of 2 summer and 2 (dry, old) all-season tires and how loose the rear was, I think A was a fair place to class the car for this event!

My car was not pushy at all! Quite loose in fact, very fun but not very fast. (Ryan was 3 seconds faster than me in my car on the same loose setup, so as usual lots of space for me to improve.) Will post video later.

Don’t know if I’ll make it off the waiting list for this Saturday, but even if it doesn’t happen, maybe I should come and let Ryan drive my car!

Nigel, great suggestion! I’ll have to check if I can be excused from cookie sales in front of the Pet store to help them sell cookies to AutoX, if it’s not against the CCA AutoX rules.

Even if it doesn’t work out, I’ll see if I can supply the AutoX committee with some Thin Mints they can use to reward/punish you for such creative thinking.

I was all set to register for the Feb 28th Autocross but it looks like I’m signed up to help sell Girl Scout Cookies that day.

Chris, I don’t know who the chapter’s insurance provider is but it’s probably sourced through BMW CCA National.

You can call Lockton Affinity and see if they do group insurance policies that would cover your other car club. (What?! Are there other car clubs?) See this link:
